David Koch has demonstrated repeatedly that he is not interested in the "free exchange of ideas" and "democracy," but instead in using his wealth and power to actually manipulate information, public consciousness and the political legislative process. All those principles that I truly believed the wonderful WGBH has stood for. I am saddened, shocked and outraged to learn that David Koch could actually be a Board member of this deeply respected and well-managed public institution, of which I am also a member. It is NOT that I believe his ideas should not be heard or discussed, it’s that I believe his life choices and actions have repeatedly shown that he wants to CRUSH conversation and education. Instead of using the blessing of his wealth and power to build understanding between people, promote cultural situations that break down false divisions, encouraging people to identify and connect with universal human experiences that give life to the AMERICAN EXPERIMENT (and miracle, really)...., he uses his access to money and institutional control to force through political agendas (which I imagine he believes in) and disseminate one-sided distortions of reality. This fact has been shown by numerous, highly-legitimate news reporting outlets. It’s possible that there is another side to the situation that I have not been presented with. But the facts I do know cannot be outweighed by any alternate truths. Please ask him to resign from the WGBH Board or I believe many people in Boston will stop giving you funds. Thank you.
