David Letterman & The Rubiks Cube Of Television... Just when - TopicsExpress

David Letterman & The Rubiks Cube Of Television... Just when will David Letterman retire? No one is quite sure, but leading up to that occasion there is a lot of coincidental activity, including this story on Stephen Colberts replacement. Interestingly, contracts and Neilson come into play too. What I am about to reveal here is not confidential inside information, but it is the educated guessing rumor heard at several networks. Colberts Comedy Central contract is up in December, so it makes sense that CC has announced Larry Wilmore as his replacement. There is a lot speculation that Letterman will take advantage of the spring Neilson sweeps of 2015 to retire or at least announce the date. I think Lettermans contract was signed in the fall, so...as he often does, he could surprise us all and stay on till September of 2015. The fall sweep period is October 29-November 25, 2015 and would also be a good time for the Colbert debut. FYI, April 23-May 20, 2015 is the spring sweeps window, during which time Nielsen measures local quarter-hour television viewing in TV homes across 210 markets. There are 56 metered markets – including 25 local people meter markets, and 154 diary-only markets. Survey dates include four major “sweeps” in February, May, July and November with additional survey periods for various markets. Local people meter markets have 12 survey periods per year. variety/2014/tv/news/daily-shows-larry-wilmore-to-replace-stephen-colbert-1201176871/
