David Madore is at it again! Aside from numerous spelling and grammar errors...hes once again twisting the facts to meet his agenda - not only that but he is now using his public Facebook page which is supposedly to share with the people of Clark County to campaign for Lynda Wilson. Ron Goodman can you debunk this load of...? David Madore Clark County government is in financial trouble - Setting the record straight to correct false rumors: A few days ago, the Columbian posted an online video that shows state representative Monica Stonier making statements that need to be corrected. With all due respect, here is the straight scoop to correct the errors: Fallacy 1: Stonier, from the 26:41 – 27:17 marker, stated that Clark County Commissioners added new parks fees to charge for baptisms that were not in existence before in order to make up for a hole in the county budget due to lost park fees. Fallacy 2: Stonier, from the 27:17 – 28:08 marker, goes on to say that the Clark County Commissioners came to the legislature recently to talk about how Clark County was having a hard time paying our bills. Commissioners policies were financially irresponsible and kicking the can to the legislature to ask for an increase in taxes. Stonier stated that this has been the flavor of the commissioners’ policies which are labelled as disingenuous. youtube/watch?v=Pt2pYrFooA8 Here are the facts to correct these fallacies: Fallacy 1 correction: This claim is exactly backwards. As documented here over the past week, there was no hole in the county budget to make up. Rather, even after adding lifeguards at Klineline, significantly increasing the presence of our parks ambassadors, and building two new parks this year, Clark County parks costs are $277,000 per year less now since we are now managing our own parks. No new fees were added. Rather, inherited fees were removed. The fees for events including baptisms were added in 2010 by the previous commissioners. As soon as the current commissioners were made aware of those fees, they were removed so all citizens can now enjoy their events and use the sports fields free of charge. In addition, event organizers can choose to reserve shelters or sports fields for their exclusive use for a reasonable fee. Fallacy 2 correction: This claim is also exactly backwards. As corrected above, rather than a deficit, all changes made to our parks resulted not in a financial deficit, but in a surplus. There is no financial hole to make up. As consistently documented by posts here over the last 18 months, Clark County’s finances have steadily grown stronger and have consistently added cash reserves even after authorizing 8 new sheriff deputies, 8 new jail officers, 1 new jail commander, 2 new jail staff members to help exiting inmates to responsibly re-enter society, 2 new sheriff public records staff members, opening a previously closed wing of the jail to provide 42 new jail beds, providing for new software systems to replace our sheriff’s antiquated systems, and rejecting all tax increases. In addition, even though the Washington Association of Counties is pushing to remove the 1% limit on property tax increases, we have taken a stand against the legislature doing so. Our position is to respect the vote of the people who approved that 1% limit. We will continue to urge our legislature to stop raising taxes. As county commissioners, accountable to the people, good policy is to welcome scrutiny and transparency. Whenever a false rumor is advanced, we have an obligation to give an account and set the record straight. Lynda Wilson is running to replace Monica Stonier to represent Clark County citizens with a true and informed position of the real state of Clark County. We will continue to keep a lid on local taxes. I am happy to report that free enterprise has added 5,800 more local jobs in the last 12 months; Clark County is financially healthy; business is booming; and waiving all fees on jobs creators is resulting in growing tax revenue to lighten the load for all citizens. Yea Clark County!
