David Mark Seeks Lasting Solution To ASUU Strike The Senate president, David Mark, has called on federal and state legislators, especially members of the committees of education to strategise and find lasting solution to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU strike. He said “the persistent strike actions by ASUU have had tremendous impact on the quality of our education system. It is becoming necessary for us to initiate a legislative solution to the problem.” Mark who was represented by the minority whip of the Senate, Solomon Ganiyu, stated this yesterday during the conference of National Assembly and 36 state houses of assembly committees on education on the theme “Transforming Nigerian Education Sector.” While calling on the federal government, members of ASUU, and the 36 states committees to urgently come to an agreement so that students could return to school, he said. “The job situation in the country is not what we want it to be.” “The universities have to ensure they pass out marketable graduates that can stand the work environment and add value where required.” Furthermore, he added that there is a need to make university curriculum entrepreneurial, such that graduates can be self employed to stem the tide of the current unemployment which has remained the bane of our society. He called on the private sector participation in the industry, especially in the making of policies, as government cannot adequately fund the sector. @Arusondave
