David Parkinson asked for 6 things people might not know about me. - TopicsExpress

David Parkinson asked for 6 things people might not know about me. 1 My favourite number is 181 (it is a twin prime, the sum and difference of two consecutive squares, the sum of 5 consecutive primes, a centred n-polygon number where n is 4, 5, 12, 18, or 30 and when written normally it has two lines of symmetry and 180 degree rotational symmetry, among other properties). 2 I believe in radical full-blooded Platonism, aka the mathematical universe or the ultimate ensemble, as I cannot imagine how else the universe could come to be. 3 I wrote a paper suggesting that cooling flow galaxy clusters would not need elaborate stabalizing mechanisms as they could be transient phenomena caused by clumps falling into them. 4 I wrote a science fiction novel (still needing extensive editing before sharing) that incorporates 1-3 above. 5 I have visited 20 different countries but never been out of Europe (depending on your definition: I have been to St Petersburg in Russia and Greek Cyprus). 6 I met Radiohead at the start of their OK Computer tour at Barcelona and asked Thom Yorke why the lyrics for No Surprises had changed (he said it had come to mean something different to him, but didnt elaborate). Apparently if you like this Ive to give you a number to do.
