David Ragan, No. 34 Taco Bell Ford Starting Position: 35 Finishing Position: 25 David Ragan earned a top-25 finish Sunday in an intense, caution-filled race at Phoenix International Raceway. Ragan started 35th in the No. 34 Taco Bell Ford in the last race for Chase drivers to make the Championship round at Homestead-Miami Speedway. His first comments to crew chief Derrick Finley after the race went green were that his Ford Fusion was handling pretty good -- a good starting point for the 312-mile event. That set up the team to make only minor adjustments over the course of the afternoon and concentrate on pit strategy. Twelve yellow flags allowed for plenty of strategizing. The team took some risks that paid off using the wave-around rule and also earned a Lucky Dog pass late in the race to be on the lead lap as the field raced for the checkers. After making gains in track position all day, Ragan was in 26th for the final restart with 12 laps to go. He moved up one more spot in those final laps to cross the line in 25th. The finish, along with a bonus point for leading laps, bumped Ragan up one spot in driver points and the No. 34 one spot in owner points. Phoenix has always been a tough track for us, so a top-25 lead-lap finish is a good day for us. Derrick (Finley) and the pit crew did a good job all day and put us in a position for a solid finish. Now this team needs another good day next week in Homestead to take us into the off-season on a high note.
