David Sharpe, companionsforheroes.org/, just sent out an amazing message from a veteran the organization has helped. It reads : I was a Marine Infantryman in 1/2 Charlie Company, 4th Platoon. I deployed once to Iraq in 2008 and to Afghanistan in 2010. During the deployment to Afghanistan, I was blown up seven times from IEDs while on foot patrol. The specific Area of Responsibility we operated in was called Karamunda. Out of the seven IED exposures, I endured severe concussions, and one of those IED blast (May 22, 2010) I took shrapnel and was unconscious for days. During that tour of duty I received a Purple Heart and a Navy Achievement Medal with Combat Valor. Then two months ago, I applied to C4H and was guided by David Jurado (Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran) at C4H as to what to look for in a dog/pup and adopted one (Bandit). I have been much, much happier since Bandit has come in to my life -- my temperament has noticeably improved, I am less depressed and when Im with Bandit, he keeps me grounded and distracting me from negative memories that I put in a lot of effort to forget. Bandit and I have not yet started service training, however, I am optimistic about how it will turn out because of the confidence I have in the C4H staff since many of them are disabled veterans and also have service dogs obtained from shelters. Thank you all and Happy Veterans Day, Patrick Muse
