David Sneed: When we last spoke, I had posted a meme illustrating income equality relating to the Walton family fortune. You asked Whats wrong with that? and spoke in terms of whether or not people work hard. Even if I grant that Sam Walton worked hard, there is no one claiming his heirs do. More, I doubt anyone would claim present owners of Walmart work harder than their minimum wage employees. You said that by posting messages about income inequality, I and others o the left increase feeling of Jealousy, envy, resentment. I really cannot be held responsible for readers reaction. I would, in fact, hope that workers wonder why we spend money in anti-union shops. I would hope that people would think about how we promote Wal Mart as American, yet so many of their products are imported. I would hope people would think of the ultimate costs of Wal Marts low prices: how Wal Mart affects the well-being of its workers and, ultimately, the working class who shop there. You spoke of how your interactions with the wealthy have benefitted you, and I am very happy for you. It does not follow that your experience is a universal. But I will still return to the point I left you with the other day: I posted a set of facts, the veracity of which one cannot argue, though one may draw different conclusions from the same set of facts. The working class needs the right and the space to post fact and working class interpretations of tose facts. Interpretations guided by owners dominate the public dialogue.
