David Suzuki is currently on a cross-Canada tour to promote the concept of environmental rights and why having access to clean water, clean air, and healthy food should be guaranteed to all Canadians. This isnt the case in hundreds of First Nations communities across the country which remain on boil water advisories because the watersheds that they draw their drinking water from has been poisoned or because of government mismanagement of their water infrastructure. Yesterday we met with elders, leaders and youth from Neskantaga First Nation and earlier in the day from Gull Bay (Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek) First Nation in northwestern Ontario. I was told that babies have to be bathed in bottled water, at an outrageous expense to the community, because their water is too dangerous.
