David becomes a fugitive. At Nob he asks the priest Ahimelech for food and a weapon. Doeg, an Edomite witnessed Ahimelech aid David and reports to Saul. Saul refusing to listen to Ahimelechs explanation orders the whole clan of priests killed and wipes out their families as well. Only one priest Abiathar survives. This unjust killing of 85 priests was a partial fulfilling of the judgment predicted to strike the family of Eli. Though David was a fugitive, Saul felt he was being persecuted. As he saw it, his son was disloyal, his subjects refused to aid him, and David was conspiring against him. THE WICKED TEND TO SEE THEIR OWN MOTIVES AND CHARACTER IN OTHERS.
