David’s pride had got the best of him and he wanted to boast in the size of his military. David once relied upon God with a slingshot and stones to defeat the Philistine army, now his confidence rested in his number of soldiers. God was angry that David’s reliance was not in the Lord God Almighty, so right here, right now, was the place where God would clearly reveal his displeasure…at the threshing floor. Hovering above Ornan’s threshing floor was a dreadful sight, a frightening figure! Standing over the city of Jerusalem, with a sword in his hand was God’s messenger of Death. At God’s command his sword began to slice through that nation of people, for three days the edge of his blade was unstoppable and people fell like dominoes. Not until God said enough, did the angel stay his hand.
