Dawn Wooleys excellent series Looking at adverts weareoca/photography/looking-at-adverts-4/ made me look at a thought provoking little book I have on 1950s American adverts. They were a lot less subtle then. I could share any number of cringeworthy examples but this one especially made me shudder because it was so awful. Quite apart from illustrating how much Las Vegas has changed in the last 60 something years, early in the 50s one of the main attractions worth advertising was the fact you could see a nuclear explosion right from your hotel window!
