Day 1 (Fourth times a charm?) - Meeting Murphy Elisha has a propensity to be a member of the statistically insignificant minority. Most recently this has played out through and inclination to hit edge cases for side effects and complications after medical procedures. Today was no exception. First things first. Elisha underwent surgery this morning to add a cystic shunt to improve drainage of excess fluid from his brain. The procedure appears to have been a success, and Elisha has been alert and chatting with mom and myself. For this we give thanks and step out of the way to recognize the power of God as he used Dr. Bingamans hands to mitigate a clear and present danger to Elishas immediate well-being. As with any medical procedure there are risks. In this instance the risks are infection and aseptic (surgical) meningitis. Elisha appears to be suffering from the latter once again. He is currently in significant discomfort. The medical team is managing his pain through the night, but as yet have not begun steroid treatment. The plan stepping through the next day is for the nuerosurgical team to monitor Elisha for improvement and manage his pain pharmacologically. Geneva and I expect Dr. Bingaman to make an appearance tomorrow to discuss the current status and develop a more complete strategy. Our prayers this evening are centered squarely around Elishas well-being. We pray that Gods healing hand will touch him and uncomplicate the complications that have defined the last 72 hours of his life. We pray for his comfort and the elimination of pain and inflammation. I pray for peace and a good nights sleep for Geneva as she steps through this time in relative isolation. Please partner with us in these petitions.
