Day 1: #GodTheShepherd David the psalmist starts this - TopicsExpress

Day 1: #GodTheShepherd David the psalmist starts this particular psalm with recognizing who God is. He says The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. (Psalms 23:1 NLT). David realized that his victories were not because of his own might, strength or skill to fight or even the army that he has with him but the fact that God was with him and He ordered his steps. Who is a shepherd? you may ask... In an African and Jewish set up; a shepherd was the one who took care of the sheep and cattle. Most times they were disregarded in the community and it was a duty left for the young boys. (Remember Davids anointing? 1 Samuel 16:10-11; the shepherds during the birth of Jesus Luke 2:8-12). Nevertheless, their main duty is to make sure that the flock is well taken care of, fed and healthy. See this... I love this translation: THE Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack. (Psalm 23:1 AMP) David says when the Lord is his shepherd, He lacks nothing. How? 1) He has to make sure that the flock are well #Fed. It is not the problem of the sheep to go out looking for where the grass is green and go and feed. So the shepherd has the duty to make sure the flock are in a place they can feed. 2) Once the shepherd scouts for a place appropriate for the flock to feed, he #Leads and #Guides the sheep to the place. The shepherd leads and the sheep follow. 3) A shepherd will never allow the sheep to be attacked and hurt whilst he is there. His sole duty whilst the sheep are feeding is to make sure that they are safe and not disturbed. He watches over them to make sure that no predator comes and attacks them. He #Protects and shields them. Does God do all this for you? Does he Provide for you what you feed on? Have you ever asked him to provide and he failed? Paul confirms this and writes And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19 AMP) God is always our guide. Always watching over you and me. There is not a single day that I have asked for his guidance in anything and He failed me. God speaks through Isaiah and says Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way that you should go. (Isaiah 48:17 AMP) Also read: Psalms 32:8; Psalms 16:11; Psalms 25:9; Isaiah 30:21; Isaiah 58:11; Romans 8:14) This is my best. The Lord is out there to protect me and make sure that I am safe and well. I am not afraid of anything because I know, I have the heavenly battalion watching over me. Psalms 91 sums this point very well. David knew what to be protected and shielded of the Lord means. (Also read 1 Samuel 22:3-4; Psalms 4:8; Psalms 18:30; Psalms 31:20; Psalms 32:7; Psalms 121:4-8; Isaiah 54:17; Proverbs 18:10) My friend, as you read this, know that you have a #Shepherd watching over you. But the question is.. Do you know this shepherd? JESUS said, I know my sheep and my sheep know my voice. You can never benefit from the shepherd if you know him not. Know him today and experience him work in your life... Pray: Lord Jesus, I know you not but I want to know you. Reveal yourself to me and let me know you as my shepherd. I surrender my life to you... Save me, forgive me and being me to the fold of your flock. In Jesus name I pray... Amen! Today, my prayer is that you will experience the love of our Good Shepherd Jesus Christ. Shalom!! #Psalms23 #ThePsalmistJourney
