Day 1 Matthew 1:1-17 In this passage God lays out the legal genealogy of Jesus. If you were to drill down on some of the names, you would find that many of them were great men of faith. In fact, this genealogy begins with Abraham, who many call the father of our faith; that is, in Genesis 15:6 it says that Abraham believed God and righteousness was credited to him. What is most fascinating to me out of this list is the four women who are mentioned--highly unusual in a Hebrew genealogy: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba (Uriahs wife). Their common feature? They were all Gentiles! God wanted to make sure, even in His genealogy, that everyone knew that Jesus and His gospel were for all people, Jew and Gentile alike.
