Day 1 (May 11) – Coordination and Mapping (through sketching and walking). Though it was raining, we managed to walk around the city. Cognitive maps were developed, and by walking, we measured and tried to make sense of various urban threads (walking on the ground, above the ground through elevated pedestrian bridges, underground, and water). Our itinerary was from the Y to Mid-level at Mosque Jct, toward the escalator (via Shelley, Peel, Hollywood, the traditional wet market is located on Gage, Queen’s Road and Des Voeux) - how an intervention such as the urban escalator becomes a catalyst. From Des Voeux, we went up again on the elevated pedestrian paths toward IFC (Cesar Pelli) and the Ferry toward TST. Dim Sum on Hankow St, then concluded at i-Square (Rocco Yim). Day 2 (May 12) – Urban Architecture. Our itinerary is from the Y, and we will take Bus 12A toward Admiralty. Continue to a program-driven project and waterfront development along the PLA and New Gov’t buildings (Rocco Yim). Next is HSBC (Norman Foster) - how the building is elevated thus allowing the connection toward the statue square. next is Hung Hom Station - Lunch, and this complex is where infra-structure/programs and architectural structure/programs are interconnected; then, we will visit Zaha’s building at HK Poly, and Hotel Icon by a local architect Rocco Yim. Day 3 (May 13) – Urban Density, Green Pockets, and Podium Development. From the Y, to the Peak (looking at Hong Kong from the bird eye perspective), to Central, to Kowloon Station, to Tungchung Cable car toward the big Buddha. So, the focus is not the Buddha, but the cable car trip; only 25% of Hong Kong land is occupied to become pone of the densest living area in the world. Day 4 – (May 14) - Office visit (Gary Chang) May 15, off to Beijing. Check out at 6:30 (the latest), and depart hotel (ON TIME) at 7:00am to HK Airport. Flight CA108
