Day 1. Track 2B How a coach’s posture rooted in both Western and Asian cultures triggers greater agility and collaboration across an organization in Asia Speaker : Jean-Francois Cousin More information about APAC Conference. apac2014 A world-traveller based in Asia since 1995, Jean-Francois has coached over 400 executives from 30 nationalities, mostly for Fortune 500 companies. One of his main interests is to help leaders and organizations enhance collaboration and agility, in a context where many factors keep them relatively low and thus hinder competitiveness. As an MCC, Jean-Francois’ favourite posture is “the student of his clients’ magnificence”, and he has never been disappointed: his coachees’ teachings keep awakening and growing him. Learning from the most positive shifts Asian executives he coached enabled in their work-place, he has reflected about how some specific parts of individual and team coaching-work about self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-esteem and authenticity create powerful ripple-effects on collaboration and agility across corporations, whilst enhancing executives’ comfort and ability at dealing with the ambiguity, complexity and uncertainty of international business. He also collected insights about what facilitates such transformation in the very posture of a coach anchored in both Western and Asian cultures and wisdoms. *Summary of session* To gain further competitiveness and agility, organizations in Asia crucially need to replace limiting beliefs and toxic behaviours by some more favourable to accountability, engagement and collaboration. Whilst executive coaching with its (mostly Western) frameworks helps to a degree, the very posture of a masterful coach can inspire and anchor the most profound shifts necessary, particularly about sense of self-worth, authenticity , vulnerability, comfort with not-knowing and uncertainty, and focus on helping others play at their best (rather than just focus on one’s performance). That inspiring coach’s posture is actually very much rooted in Asian wisdom about the personal growth of the leader, and continuously awakens and expands the coach. In this experiential session, Jean-Francois Cousin, MCC, will draw from his failures and successes coaching hundreds of executives in Asia, and share his findings as well as very practical applications to both individual and team coaching towards more collaboration and agility. *Session learning* - How coaching can help overcome four significant challenges on the path to unleashing more collaboration and agility in organizations in Asia - How enhancing one’s sense of self-worth unlocks transformation-possibilities and collaborative behaviors - Which particular features in a coach’s posture trigger shifts in executives’ thinking and behaviors favorable to greater organizational agility and collaboration (deep impacts from coaching the ‘who’, holding the coachee as the ‘teacher’, role-modeling authenticity, vulnerability, comfort with not knowing and with failure, the willingness to be awakened and expanded, etc…) - How the parts of a masterful coach’s posture rooted in Asian cultures and wisdoms help (Asian thinkers’ precepts, approach to time and one’s path, making sense of what isn’t said, use of analogical reasoning, shifting from ‘absolute truth’ to ‘relative truth’, etc…) - Practical applications, tools and tips for one-on-one coaching and team-coaching
