Day 1 of the Abbeys City-Wide Dog House Drive was a good one! - TopicsExpress

Day 1 of the Abbeys City-Wide Dog House Drive was a good one! Thank you to all who are helping with this, and who have helped with this every year since we started it. We began with a call from a very sweet neighbor who wanted to make sure the dog behind her house had enough warmth for the night. Since Peppermint already had a house, we gave her a weather-proof jacket & some new blankets to keep her warm inside the house! She was a total sweetie- and was gratefully warmer by the time I was leaving! The next stop was one I had seen while going to get the three we helped the other day. I knocked on the door, as usual, and a man answered who very kindly with great gratitude accepted the offer of a dog house for their beautiful Momma! He helped unload & set up everything for her-- and while he was doing that, some of his kids and his nieces and nephews came out to chat! Every single one of them were sweet & appreciative. It was a lot of fun hanging out with them & talking to them about how they love & take care of Momma & the dogs they had at their houses! We even saw the dog loose next door & all of us went to love on it & make sure it was going to be warm tonight! (I gave the dad my number in case she really was out in the cold). Sweet family-- they have even texted me thanking us again... which is all donated by ALL OF YOU, so thank yall!! ;) While I was leaving the neighborhood, I saw this dog curled up, not in his house-- so, I stopped. The man didnt know he was so twisted that he couldnt move, so I walked back there with him. While he was untwisting his tie out, I asked him if he wanted to keep Jake- he said he did. Since there was no food or water around & Jake was shivering, I asked if I could take him to the vet to make sure he was warm tonight & could maybe get his shots & be dewormed (which he hasnt had any of) & possibly a bath tomorrow... Then we could figure out a better tie-out system for the precious boy. He let me take Jake for the night--- and Anita at Northside added up a night stay with shots & a bath tomorrow to give me a total for a sponsor for him. So, please, if you are thankful he is warm tonight, a sponsorship for Jake to be warm & have his shots & other things to make him feel better is $85. He is a precious soul. Kelli Trest, he went straight to the bed you donated & laid down on it-- it was so sweet-- Thank you! If anyone will please sponsor Jake tonight, we would greatly appreciate it. This will probably be a regular occurrence during the winter season, so at least we already know a set price! The last two pics are situations I will need more help with soon. I will post for that tomorrow, if I have time. I dont have enough time to pick up all the houses, or drop them off-- so we need man power- or just supernatural powers, one or the other! If anyone could help with houses, it would mean the difference between freezing misery or a little warmth & comfort for these dogs. I will be sharing some of my favorite success stories from last year in the next few days, so please stay tuned! If you want to help with any of this- or know a dog that needs a house, or just a jacket for the winter (I cleaned out the big lots near me of rain-proof jackets), please message us. I can get you anything we have if you will deliver it! Thank you, all. I pray in the next several weeks, we can all help to get a ton of dogs warmer on these freezing nights. -It takes us all to help them all- -the abbey-
