Day 108 Sunday We were ready to leave, so we said goodbye to the Cubs and their leaders, they performed their pack goodbye ceremony and packed us up with juice and toasties. We drove up the hill to the Monastery, from where you can see right across the delta. A few photos later and we were on our way to the Dadia Forest. The area around the information centre at the forest was very busy with parked cars and people, we were surprised! Jane made lunch, the toasties that the Cub Leaders had given to us, very tasty too! Whilst I went to get some information about the forest. After lunch we set off to walk to the viewing observatory, about an hours walk through the forest. At the Eco Hotel there was some kind of event taking place, there was loud music, tables and chairs out on the lawn and a lot of people about, which must account for all the parked cars. The trail was way marked and easy to find, along the way we met quite a few people picking mushrooms, of which there are a lot of here in the forest.Everywhere looks autumnal now and the forest has that lovely musty smell. At the viewing observatory there were binoculars and telescopes for you to look through. The lady warden showed us the only two birds visible, a buzzard and a black vulture, she said there had been a lot to see in the morning. We told her that we would come back tomorrow morning. We followed a different trail back and walked with a Greek lady who was visiting a friend for a couple of days to attend a wedding. She told us that there had been 500 guests at the wedding. She lives in southern Greece and suggested some places for us to visit close to her town. She explained that the music and event back at the visitors centre was a mushroom event. When we arrived back there we went to investigate. A lady offered us a traditional mushroom soup, and also brought us some Tsouporo, its a local apéritif, she said it was very strong and gave us each a bottle of water to help it down. Both the soup and the spirit were very tasty. There were a group of people dancing to the disco, mostly to English pop tunes. We had a look at the fungus display, we were surprised at the variety and the wonderful colours and shapes. We asked at the visitors centre if we could park in their car park for the evening, they said it would be ok. We found the flattest spot and listened to the loud music playing, which now sounded more like traditional Greek music. As it became dark they packed up and left. We didnt feel very hungry, must have been full of soup! So we just had a light supper
