Day 109 of #WalkingBorneo - #Bintulu to #Sibu Tattoos and a body which tell many stories... For the second time of Walking Borneo blessed to be able to meet an Iban man more than 100 years old. The artwork on his body is incredible, possessing special powers and full of significance. On his right shoulder he has a tattoo of a Japanese airplane, a reminder of his time fighting in World War 2. Two times weve had old Iban men who taught in the war turn around and say the only reason they survived the war and they are still alive today is their tattoos. They believe it kept them safe and protected when bullets were flying around. Its fascinating to hear stories like this and its such a great blessing to be able to meet an old man like this. Unfortunately this man is now quite sick and his stories and knowledge may soon depart. Im sure there are many more stories like his throughout Borneo, anyone have one to share? Wed love to hear from anyone who does. Maybe a grandad or nanny has told an interesting story of old?
