Day 11--December 10, 2014 Then Herod secretly called for the wise - TopicsExpress

Day 11--December 10, 2014 Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage.” Matthew 2: 7-8 It can seem, at times, that the negative sides of the universe are far more prepared than we ever are. Especially when weve had one of those days when everything seems to go wrong, it can feel like something is conspiring against us. When we have a lot on our plate, there is the potential for a lot to go wrong, particularly when our expectations of how things are supposed to be are set high. In these days of preparation, its important for us to remember to set our expectations of how things will go, how much we need to get done and how we will be to a realistic level. We are human beings and life will go on, even if things are not perfect and even if it seems everyone has it more together than we do. Often even when things dont work out how we planned, they end up being better than we could imagine. We can accept what comes and lean into what is finding center and joy even when things arent perfect. Even King Herod in all his power had to readjust his expectations for despite all of his plotting, scheming and preparing to get rid of the new baby Jesus, he failed and love triumphed and the world was changed. Prayer: Gracious God, help me to remember that I am human and can set my expectations to a realistic level so that this season of preparation is not a season of stress. Help me to enjoy each moment and know that what I prepare for is you. Amen
