Day 11: I am thankful that I found Crash! During the night, the vampires came back. Their efforts to rot us away from our refuge were intensified. The thump thump of body parts was greatly intensified. Yesterdays hot and humid sun did its job on that rotting flesh. The smell is unimaginable! The insects feeding on the corpses are un-bearable and there are larger predators prowling in the wood line. They are not of the undead variety either. They have the ability to come and go as they please. Somehow, one of the predators crept into our little church and carried my little buddy away during the night. Whatever it was, it managed to avoid the vampires. It managed to avoid becoming just another thump. I heard Crashs screams! They woke me from a restless sleep. I grabbed the flashlight from the survival kit but its batteries had died. I was screwed. I had lost Crash forever. In desperation, I grabbed several hand flares and struck them. They were bright and I was willing to risk it all to retrieve my only friend; my little Crash. With flares in hand, I headed straight through the thumping of mutilated body parts and right up to within arms length of an uncountable number of filthy vampires. As I waved the flare to see, the vampires retreated. Ha! Night time vampire repellant! The survival kit only had 20. I am burning one now and have four more in my hand. The label says each one will burn for approximately 10 minutes. I have to go; I have to risk it. I walked through dozens of vampires into the direction of Crashs screams. Was he being eaten? The screams were so intense; so scary. I picked up my pace until I was in a full run. What the hell was dragging my little buddy. I could just make it out in the distance. I see you Crash! I am coming! Hang on! As the first flare faltered and went out, I immediately struck the second one. Light! Crash! I have reached him. He is alive. But Crash was still being drug by his arm. What is this thing that could maneuver through the walking dead, the vampires? What is that horrid smell? Worse even than the rotting corpses littering the church grounds. This thing; is it a person? Is it human? The shadow it pitched is dancing in the glare of the flare. I am terrified and confuse. I have Crashs other arm. I am pulling! The thing lets go and glares into my eyes! Its not a vampire, its not a jaguar as I had suspected; its a humanoid! Arms, legs, a face...Sorta..
