Day 11: Ive noticed something since weve been in Austin. It started with the staff here at the St. Cecelia, and, at first, I thought it was just exceptional customer service. But, in addition to that, the people working here seem to love what theyre doing, and no matter the job, they do it with pride and apparent joy to serve us, and the other guests, well. As we branched out from here, I found that it wasnt just at the hotel. Whether small shop or restaurant, we were consistently met by employees legitimately pleased to have us in their establishment, and ready to do whatever it took to give us a good experience. I dont know about you, but its been quite a while since Ive seen this with such consistency. Have you ever really thought about the beginning of time? Adam and Eve? They were put in the garden and trusted to tend it. They had everything they needed, but they were expected to tend to it all, with gratitude and to Gods glory. God didnt make us to not contribute. He didnt intend slavery, but He knew that work and service to our fellow man is good for our souls, and only a burden if we start feeling entitled and somehow above it. Hes provided what we need on this earth, and its our responsibility to tend it with joy, working hard in thanks to God for His provision. No matter what you do, and no matter how lowly, unglamorous, or mundane you might think it is, do it well and with joy. Serve with a thankful heart and take pride in your work as if every person who comes your way is God, Himself. They seem to get that here in Austin. They seem to understand that its good for the soul. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men... Colossians 3:23 ESV The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. Genesis 2:15 ESV And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 ESV
