Day 11: Monday, March 17 Scripture: “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour?’ But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.” -John 12:27-28 Commentary: This passage from the gospels occurs just after Jesus makes His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Moments earlier, the crowd was shouting “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!” But Jesus does not have to wait for this adoring crowd to turn against Him. He already knows His fate. And His response to what it is to come is not dispassionate. His very soul is troubled. That is quite a statement coming from God in the flesh. Despite all His power and faith, Jesus is experiencing internal anguish even before the physical anguish begins. We have spent the beginning of Lent seeking a better understanding and appreciation of the intensity of Christ’s physical suffering. This week, we will try to gain a better understanding of His inner trial. Prayer: Father, I open myself to Your Holy Spirit that You might grant me a new revelation about Your Son’s passion. Help me to grasp with my limited mind how the very Son of God suffered for me and for all humanity inwardly as well as outwardly. Use this revelation for your own great glory. Amen.
