Day 12- I am thankful for a dad that was there to take care of me, to love me unconditionally and to try and keep me on track. My father never claimed me- I knew him and had to see him but that stopped when my sister moved out. My dad married my mom when I was little about 3 I think. He was 21 and married a lady - Ruth Huntly Ruth Smith Huntley- with 3 kids, he took us on as his own. Did he do everything right- no, was it easy and always good- no. He and my sister Stephanie Kapeller Masonbrink had a very hard time- she was older and probably didnt want a step dad- and Im sure he didnt know how to handle or disciplin an older child- I cant imagine being 21 and having a 8 or 9 year old but he took us all on and I think he did a great job. Donna Kapeller Bissett may have been easier for him- she probably saw what Steph went through- I dont know. I know that I am thankful for him, Im thankful that he provided a good life for us that allowed mom to be a stay at home mom. Im thankful he was in the navy and Im proud that he was. He worked hard and we wanted for nothing. I am thankful that he is still in my life even though he and mom divorced many years ago. After the divorce I didnt see him for a while and went to his house. He opened the door and I asked what was up- he broke down crying and said he didnt know where he fit in- he wasnt my dad anymore. I told him he was my only dad and the grandfather to my girls and he wasnt getting off that easy. I thank God that he is still in my life and the life of my kids and sisters. He is there for us- ALL of us including mom if we were to ever need anything. I am thankful that he accepts the stupid stuff Ive done and still do. I am thankful that he doesnt judge me and just loves me- hes the best dad a girls could ask for- I love you daddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
