Day 13 of Great Music Month! This piece is simply fantastic. The infusion of bebop figures on top of chord progression from Charlie Parker tunes in the opening movement, followed by a middle movement that imitates Virgil Thompson and Aaron Copland, and the use of Lester Youngs solo in Lester Leaps In for a majority of the final movement, this composition of Jonathan Newmans is simply amazing. And that is why I chose to use it as the subject of my dissertation. (This isnt the best audio version of it, but it is the only YouTube version that has the entire work.)
