Day 14 (Thursday) - Amsterdam (On Our Own) For the last two days - TopicsExpress

Day 14 (Thursday) - Amsterdam (On Our Own) For the last two days of our trip, we traveled to the city of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. We checked into our hotel The Convent, which is a boutique hotel part of the Accor Chain. I would recommend this chain to anyone traveling the world. Their pillow top beds are similar to the Westin hotels in the USA. On Thursday (Day 14) we got up and boarded the Hop On-Hop Off Amsterdam bus, since we had so much success with that in Rome. There were 11 stops along the way, which circles the city. First up, we stopped at the Central Station, which is the largest transit station in Amsterdam. We did not go in the station, but met the bus there. After boarding the bus, we started our drive around the city. We stopped first at the Dapper Outdoor Market. It is a large flea market that closes a street for the vendors. We walked up and down the market to look at the independent shops. Grandma was hungry, so we stopped at a food truck to get a doughnut and Coke, while I had fresh made french fries. (I learned grandma likes fresh made french fries with mayo). We then visited the Windmill De Gooyer before getting back on the bus. Next we stopped at the Rembrandt House, but it was not handicapped friendly, so, we walked the Waterlooplein Market, as we walked to the Glassan Diamond Company. We took the tour of the Diamond factory in which grandma got to put on over $50,000 in diamonds. (They would not let me take pictures, but let me tell you, she had a big smile on her face). After completing the tour and leaving all the diamonds we walked thru the Blue Delft Factory Store. We rebounded the bus and went to the Heineken Experience. We took the tour and learned how the beer is made, as well as having our first Heineken beer. Grandma was surprised, that she liked it. We then returned home to rest, then went to dinner.
