Day 14j - November 19, 2014 Not much else to report from this mornings post. Even at the reduced sedation, David still slept all day, opening his eyes from time to time, but no visible response. The infectious disease dr. told me that anytime you are in ICU with a trach, you are at increased risk for pneumonia. One of the times that the nurse suctioned his tracheostomy, his heart rate increased to about 124. The suctioning makes him cough and Im certain that it is very painful due to the broken ribs. I laid my hand on his chest and began praying the name of Jesus and the Peace of God to calm him. The nurse was on the computer. Slowly, his heart rate slowed to 91 and the nurse said, You worked your magic. I told her, No magic. I was praying over him and praying Gods peace. Throughout the day, I pray scripture over him, confessing Gods Word over his body for healing and for Peace for his spirit. So, Answered Prayer - 1) he seems to be resting comfortably and shows no signs of pain except when they suction him; 2) with the exception of the isolated incidents of increased HR, his vitals are stable; 3) the dr. lowered the oxygen he is getting from the vent to 40% and lowered the pressure that is being forced into his lungs to get the oxygen deep into his lungs. Specific Prayer Needs - 1) any infection that might be lingering anywhere in his body to be killed once and for all; 2)protection of his lungs from pneumonia; 3) for us (Kyle, Brian and myself) to WAIT patiently while God does His healing work - we are anxious to see him showing signs of life; 4) when he does wake up, for him to remain calm and doesnt try to pull the trach out; 5) for wisdom in choosing the facility that he will move to and for Gods timing so that he isnt moved prematurely. Wait for the Lord, and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land. Psalm 37: 34
