Day 16 - Advent Morning Minute with Pastor Jason Cullum VERSES: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. KEY THOUGHT: Here’s what I want you to do. I want you to replace the word “love” with your name. Jason is patient. Jason is kind. Jason does not envy. Jason is not proud. STOP! No more. I give up. Uncle! Those words are not true. I’m not patient. I’m not kind. Just as my wife and kids. I can be a real piece-of-work and not a lot like this description. And for some, that’s the real problem with these scriptures. It sets a standard I will never be able to reach. No one can…except Christ. When I read the words of this scripture I see a picture of God’s perfect love. Now try this…replace the word “love” with Jesus’ name. Jesus is patient. Jesus is kind. Jesus does not envy. Jesus does not boast. Jesus is not proud. Jesus is not rude. Jesus is not self-seeking, he is not easily angered, he keeps no record of wrongs. Jesus does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Jesus always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preservers. Jesus never fails. Instead of these scriptures reminding us of a love we cannot produce, let it remind us of a love we cannot resist…God’s love. Most of us are thirsty for this kind of love. Those who should have loved you didn’t. Those who could have loved you didn’t. You were left at the altar. You were left at the hospital. Left with no answers. Left with a broken heart. Left with questions, wondering, “Does anyone really love me?” 1 Corinthians 13 is God’s answer! God loves you personally. Powerfully. Passionately. While others have promised and failed God has promised and delivered. He loves you with an unfailing, unselfish love that if you let it…will not only fill you, but spill out of you onto others. PRAYER: Dear God, love must be a priority in my life. Help me to love my family and friends and strangers how you want me to. Holy Spirit stir my heart when I am given an opportunity to love someone like God has loved me. And let me aspire to the example that Jesus’ set with His love.
