Day 16 “A Long Satisfied Life” “With long life I will - TopicsExpress

Day 16 “A Long Satisfied Life” “With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Ah, to live a long and healthy life. What a wonderful concept! I am convinced that this is one of our deepest desires. Many people have these images of growing old but being very healthy and filled with vitality and zest for life. We just have to eat right, get plenty of rest along with cardiovascular exercise and we will have a long life. That might be so, but this is not the only aspect that the psalmist is promoting. Part of our dedication to spiritual disciplines and good wholesome living is the idea that we will likely enjoy many years of healthy living. At our church, just last month I officiated in the funeral of one of our seniors who had lived 100 years. She died of old age; no cancer, no heart problems, no stroke, no high blood pressure. This precious saint loved the Lord, loved her family, lived right and so, she lived long. But again this passage is not referring just to living many years. This psalm implies a two-pronged approach to long life. First, as we dedicate ourselves to Him, we will live healthier years while on earth. But also and more importantly, is the other approach that in living in such a manner of deep faith in God will result in enjoying eternal rest with Him. Now let me be clear on this matter, I like living and plan to be around for some time. But I am convinced that in loving the Lord and in living right before Him and mankind, I will be rewarded with wonderful years here on earth. And, I will experience His salvation. Or, I will enjoy eternal rest in Him. Now what does this do for us while we are here on earth? Simply put, we cannot understand that not worrying or fussing about my tomorrow allows me to fully enjoy my today. If you fully grasp that God will satisfy you with long life and with salvation, then the stresses about other things can be managed.
