Day 168: 1/20 On Monday we were checking out of our hotel in Wichita and we received a message from Amy Strasner, the cousin of one of Julias older friends, Josh Strasner. (Note: Josh Spoke at Jus memorial service and he also passed away this last year from a brave battle with colon cancer.). Amy said that her best friends family had been in a horrible car accident near Wichita and the mother passed away in the wreck. 3 of their 4 children were in the car as well as the oldest childs friend. The kids all survived. Would we go visit them? This is where our kids shine! We walked into a room unannounced to 4 grieving children (ages 14 to 6), their father and his sister, and their grandfather! We announced that we heard through Amy that there was a grieving family up here. We told them about our journey and our loss; how God was bringing us through the fire and using us for something greater through our tragedy. We told them that Ju always focused on the CAN in CANcer and to give each other plenty of room to grieve DIFFERENTLY and endless amounts of grace when they fall short of each others expectations. We gave the kids Tshirts to remember us. I cannot fathom being a child and awaking to bone pins and plates in my legs and a gash in my head and then on top of that having to deal with knowing I would never see my mom again. This is such an incredible loss for these young kids. Our hearts literally broke for them and what they would encounter over the next days, months and years ahead. But what a testimony of Gods grace they will have through watching their father raise them. He is a very kind and compassionate man who just lost his wife/best friend/life partner. Please pray for JD Preston and his children as they learn to navigate life without their mother and wife. Share their story and page to help them with medical and funeral expenses. gofundme/kilh9k We also met a very kind and compassionate nurse and pediatric doctor while we were there. Both were very knowledgable about duodenal cancer and the Whipple operation that Jonathan had as well as Ewings sarcoma that cut our Jus life too short. They were really excited about our #WalkAcrossAmerica to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. God bless them for encouraging us to keep the torch lit and to hold it high! -Jennifer #JuCan - #PrestonsCan #GODCAN @JuCanFoundation #Disney2Disney
