Day 17 (June 7, 2014): It’s been a busy, busy day for Liz . . . so busy that she could barely make a call to give me tonight’s update! But thanks to her dad Richard who went down this morning to sit with Weston so that Liz could get a few other things done. Like talk on the phone without grabbing Weston’s hand for the three-hundred and fifty-eighth time in an hour. And eat. And maybe even go to the restroom. Simple things like that. She’s still attempting to get a run in every other morning, which is her happy place, and fortunately, managed to get out this morning. Thanks Richard! She texted me a minute ago and said that Weston had actually been holding still for the past 10 minutes. Which is the first 10 minutes he’s been still in over 6 hours. He continues to be extremely restless, and his legs just don’t stop at all. He has even gotten to where he doesn’t want to hold the ukulele very often. She hands it to him, and he hands it right back, along with any other object that he might have liked holding just a few days ago. She says that she gets the impression that he’s just terribly miserable, that his head hurts, and that he can’t get at all comfortable. This is NOT a pleasant passage in this journey, and we all need to pray that it passes soon. They don’t want to give him much pain medication, because of how it will affect his ability to fully come out of the last phase of the coma. But they are giving him some Tylenol on occasion to try and take the edge off. One good thing that happened today was that he reached down and pulled his sock off. (That wasn’t the good part). And then he actually put it back on by himself! Happy day, he can put socks on. That’s a start. Liz sent this picture to me today of their family Christmas card from when Weston was just about 2 ½ years old. Weston is the one saying “Wanna see how fast I can get my Mom and Dad to run?” Liz’s comment with the picture said “Classic! Now it is ...Wanna see how fast I can make my Mom move and grab my oxygen tube and keep my chest tube from pulling and keep me from falling out of my hospital bed?!! Oh my Weston, you haven’t changed at all. Please pray for Weston that he can find some comfort and peace, and in turn, so will Liz. Thank you all!
