Day 17 and 18:Sunday we left Embangweni and travelled to Namiashi - TopicsExpress

Day 17 and 18:Sunday we left Embangweni and travelled to Namiashi Lodge on the lakeside, we went via Mzuzu but broke down when we stopped at the ATM, we waited at Jameson house while the car was fixed so we could restock our bags with more dental equipment and clean clothes and then we drove the 3 hour trip to Namiashi lodge at break neck speed so that we didnt have to drive too long in the dark! Spent an incredibly hot night under a very small mosquito net and then travelled by boat the next morning to TCharo, a lakeside clinic accessible by a 2 hour boat trip or a 6 hour walk. We were warmly welcomed and had the best thank you ever bestowed on us by a 80+ lady whose tooth I had extracted, she sang and danced around the little room until we had to get Ben the driver to ask her to leave so we could see somebody else, it made our day. When it was time to leave there were some unhappy people as they had arrived too late and because of our onward journey it was impossible to stay longer. We arrived back at the jetty at Mlowe at dusk and then had to travel up the famous Gorodi road in the dark, a 16km dirt track with 19 hairpin bends, we broke down twice and at one point had to push the car down hill to get it to start!! It was wonderful to eventually reach Livingstonia and the lovely big colonial house belonging to Dr Lyn Dowds and her family and to be greeted by Lyn and a beautiful home grown and home cooked meal, thank you Dr Lyn
