Day 17 – Fave song from 1998 Refused - Tannhauser/Derive https://youtube/watch?v=l5a1xuO4LaY I had a duplicate question so I just randomly picked a year and then went off on a search to find the good songs. Im gonna give a mixture of songs from that year that I like now that I may not have discovered then and songs I liked back then. Anyway, YES! Refused! One of the greatest albums of all-time was released in 1998 and while I didnt know about them then, I appreciate the shit out of them now. This album is so damn good. This song is the first Refused song I heard, and Ive always loved the massive build-up to the explosion that comes next. It has perfect lyrics too. After all the build-up the singer belts out, Where do we go from here? Just about anywhere! Angry yet optimistic at the same time... like anarchism. Here are some others: Matthew Good Band -- Apparitions https://youtube/watch?v=lfPwb4f6lo8 One of the few Matt Good bands that I can say I actually like. But despite that, Id rather have someone like him in the mainstream than what we have now because at least he was saying something. This was a song I liked back in 1998, though I think I actually appreciate it more now. Kid Rock - Bawitdaba https://youtube/watch?v=1OrNS2zbTZg Speaking of saying something, here we have Kid Rock. This was back when he was white-trash hip-hop. I can say this without shame, but I had a hard time picking a favourite from this album because even though I cant stand most music Kid Rock has done since, Devil Without A Cause was a fun album. This was a song I liked back in 1998. The Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore https://youtube/watch?v=9uWwvQKGjLI I dont think Ive ever actually listened to the whole album, but Ive always really liked this song. Godspeed You Black Emperor - Dead Flag Blues https://youtube/watch?v=XVekJTmtwqM Didnt know these guys back then, but love them now. They arent music Im going to listen to when Im walking around town or something, but Ill rock them when Im sitting at home and want something atmospheric. System of a Down - War? https://youtube/watch?v=k3WSnlP1Ijs It was really hard to pick a SOAD song, and if I made this list back in 1998 a SOAD song would have been my first pick. Really it just comes down to my mood. I almost picked Spiders or Know, but was in a War? mood. Barenaked Ladies - Light up My Room https://youtube/watch?v=PKqFxA2mp54 Ive always really liked slower BNL, and this song is touching. Its been my favourite BNL song for a long time, rivaled only by Told You So, which is also on Stunt. Stunt is a great album. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea https://youtube/watch?v=lcgyKo7vbm4 One of the most hyped indie albums of all-time, I was not even aware of it back in 1998. Since then Ive become more knowledgeable and I think the whole album deserves the credit it gets. This song gives me pleasant feels in my heart. Public Enemy - He Got Game https://youtube/watch?v=lcgyKo7vbm4 This is for my brah Chris Selig. He got game! Its just a chillasshit song but it says something. Of course, Public Enemy songs always did. The best rediscovery that I made was the Moffatts. Oh my god I completely forgot! Bwahaha.
