Day 17 –Read Joshua 3: 17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground. Focus on “dry ground”. Now the Jordan River was at flood stage. It had inundated the banks on both sides. Then the priests entered the water and the Lord piled up the river and opened a path for the Israelites to cross over. They stood on “dry ground”. No mud. Now mushiness. No trickle of water. Dry ground. It is said that the calmest weather is in the eye of the storm; right smack in the middle of the storm. Jesus was also crossing over the Sea of Galilee to the other side in Mark 4 –“That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 3Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” “Quiet! Be Still!” In the middle of the river, the Israelites stood on dry ground. In the middle of the storm, the disciples experienced peace. “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” (Psalm 46:10-11) “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” (Isaiah 26:3) On another occasion, Jesus sent the disciples to cross over the Galilee Sea by ship and when they did, they found themselves with the wind against them. Then Jesus appears, walking on the water, and says to them, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Pray. Thank you, God for you do not leave me nor forsake me. And even in the middle of the river, you find me dry ground. When a storm rages in my life, you speak peace to it, I trust in you oh Lord! You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. From you comes deliverance. May your blessing come upon us. (Psalm 91: Psalm 3) You can freely sing: And I will call upon Your name. And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise. My soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours, and You are mine Your grace abounds in deepest waters, Your sovereign hand will be my guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me. Youve never failed, and You wont start now. ( ©Hillsong United - Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) )
