Day 171 of #Purple365. Parents of Banksville Elementary School - TopicsExpress

Day 171 of #Purple365. Parents of Banksville Elementary School students have been put on alert that their school could be targeted. Principal David May sent home a letter telling parents that a domestic dispute involving a family from their school forced Pittsburgh police to contact them and ask them to be on alert. The letter didnt specify the threat, but told parents they are in heightened security and teachers are looking out for anything suspicious. Parent Karrie Kehrer said that her second-grader told her they were given alert codes. They were told that in the event they get a code S; code stranger; that they would walk along a straight line, nice, neat and orderly and they would have to go to their safe room, said Kehrer. Their safe room has a metal door and once they get in there to hide, under a desk, under a chair, in a closet, anywhere they can find to hide and be sheltered. Kehrer said that she is glad the note came home, so she could talk to her daughter, but she said it is frightening as well. It is hard every day to send her out the door to begin with, but then when you get something like this it makes it a little but harder, Kehrer said. You cant shield them from everything. #domesticviolence #domesticabuse #violence #abuse
