Day 182 #100happydays Its not everyday that your first born - TopicsExpress

Day 182 #100happydays Its not everyday that your first born child graduates from college. so please indulge me this post, and forgive its longevity. The ceremony started at 11 am; we were not quite late, but running enough behind schedule to cause frozen-faced anxiety, and give the green light to every slow moving vehicle in West Devon to take it in turns to be in front of my car for the entire journey to Tavistock College. We were in our seats before Mr OConnor started speaking (phew!), which is great, because he had some very interesting things to say about being positive, having your glass half full, and resilience. We would get on, Mr OConnor and I. Then the special awards; Mr Byron and Mr Gallie (the Art teachers) stood up to present them all. They adopted a Laurel and Hardy approach, which was quite entertaining (Mr Byron said later that he didnt mind my comparison, as long as he was Laurel and not Hardy. Separately, Mr Gallie said the same...). Unlike Camilla last week, Jasmine was unaware that she was to receive the award in the first category, the Achievement for Art, so when Mr Gallie read her name out, it took us both by surprise. (I know that its not all about me, but it took a monumental effort to (a) not cry, and (b) not leap to my feet, clap my hands above my head, jump up and down and whoop like a goodun). Jasmine was shaking when she returned from the stage. Jasmines art is deeply thoughtful. Her final exam piece is a handmade book of her drawings, depicting excerpts from Scotts last letter to his wife from his final camp in the Antarctic. Its beautiful, and my photos do not do it justice. You know it is a good day when your heart is full to bursting with love and pride. My beautiful, gifted, unassuming daughter, how I do love you.
