Day 19 - 26/12/14 - Chaing Mai Boxing Day in Chaing Mai. Temples, temples and more temples - Umong Temple - the most impressive in Chaing Mai (to me) due to its location - tucked into the jungle near the base of Doi Suthep Mountain, its age - over 700 years old, its awesome chedi, the tunnels you pass through to get to it and the overwhelming sense of tranquility the entire surroundings offer. We then drive up Doi Suthep Mountain through a massive series of switchback roads to Doi Phrathat Suthep Temple - perched on the top of the mountain with awesome views over the city of Chaing Mai below. Through another massive series of switchback roads to Bhuping Royal Summer Palace and yet another on a single lane two way road on to Doi Suthep Pui National Park, on to its summit and the Hmong hill tribe village of Baan Khun Chang Khian.
