Day 19- Listening to God I remember the first time I heard - TopicsExpress

Day 19- Listening to God I remember the first time I heard Gods voice. I actually questioned myself like did I just say that? It wasnt loud it was real subtle. Thats why I questioned myself. I had expected to hear a loud voice. You know like they do in the movies? But it was nothing like that. I was excited..because I had never thought I would hear His voice. You know how I know it was His voice? Because He told me to do something I had too much pride to do on my own. I really didnt want to do it but when I realized it was His voice, I was so excited, I did it! Not every time went like that though! Some nights ago, things were just going haywire. Before going to bed, I was looking through the bible to see if I could place my feelings. I came upon Psalm 4:4 4 Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. And in obeying Gods word, I found out why I was feeling what I was feeling. That night I woke up in the middle of the night with a head full of words. It was like my mind was going a mile a minute. I wanted to turn it off, but it kept going. I pleaded with God to hear His promises and in the midst of the insanity, He gave me one. I am sure God has been talking to us even before we knew He was. 1st we didnt have enough of a relationship to know how to hear Him and 2nd once we got into a relationship with Him, it took time to learn how to hear from Him. We live in a society that when we ask for something or about something, we expect an answer right away. We can even look up things on the internet to get an instantaneous answer. But who is to say the answers we get are the right ones? We have to develop our relationship with God and get to know Him in order to know when we are hearing from Him. He will speak to us through various ways. 1. Through His word. You could be asking God about a certain situation and He will lead to His word for an answer. 2. Through other people. Most definitely have to be careful with this one. He can use anyone when this one occurs, but in knowing God, you will know if it is from Him. 3. Through our circumstances. Yeah...I have experienced this too. Some situations I have been through, have made me see in the end, what God needed for me to find out about myself that I really didnt know or realize. 4. Through His still small voice. Remember when I said I expected Him to talk to me like the depicted in the movies? Nope..not like that. You can and will hear Him at times when there are no other things going on. Times when everything is shut off and everyone is gone.. As I once read God uses lots of things to talk to us. But actually hearing from God isnt so much a matter of if hes talking, but rather, whether were listening. Proverbs 2:1-5 2 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— 3 indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. Have a blessed night all.....Shasta
