Day +19: Another day another new issue. Blood sugar up to 16.1 again today and Doctors have told us Damien has acquired steriod induced diabetes :( He is now on daily insulin injections for they expect 3 months and they will assess if it is temporary or permanent. Doctor also said he has had a fluid shift as he is down 3kg that could be playing with his electrolytes. I hope these two things explain why he is feeling so bad, the last couple of days as they can be managed and resolved. Docs still working on the GVHD of the liver and trying to protect his kidneys as the numbers keep going up every day. The constant waking from nurses and insomnia from steroids all compounding feeling blah. I am trying to give him as many chances as possible to have naps. His red and white blood counts all good so things are working its just managing the lucky dip of dodgy complications that come with a transplant, as the Doctors have said none of this is unusual and we knew complications were expected and now we just have to manage them. And we soldier on...
