Day 19 SCANZIETY Its a term used in the cancer community for scan time. It may consist of one or in most cases, several of these over a few days... MRI, PET, CT, MIBG, BMA... the list goes on. Its the anxiety that comes for parents and patients as they head into those scans and the waiting that comes in finding if their cancer has progressed, responded to treatment, remained stable, or God willing, is gone. Its a paralyzing fear and lack of control. You want to throw up and cry and run so far away that no one can touch your child. What most people dont know is that this comes with lab work, pokes, IVs, chest port accesses, nasty contrast drinks, oral medications and injections. Our kids dont just lay on a table and take a picture of their insides. The scanziety for the kids is all of the mess and the pain. For the parents, its watching their kids go thru this and then the news that will follow.
