Day 190 (Tuesday, October 21st): Happy Trajen Tuesday!!! Ha! Our friend Sarah Scott coined that phrase and its caught on a little with my daughters and a few of their friends. Even though I dont expect President Obama to issue a nationwide day of the week for Trajen any time soon, I thought it appropriate since around here, every day is Trajen day! Our little soldier did something today that hes never done before- outpatient chemotherapy with the Red Devil, Doxorubicin. Essentially, 24 hours of chemo was condensed to 30 minutes. Trajen received a heart protectant before the infusion that is supposed to... well, protect his heart. Doxorubicin is notorious for causing heart tissue damage in the long run. This is a risk weve known since the beginning of Trajens treatment and one reason that he receives regular EKGs. The heart protectant he received today has a very short half-life which makes it useless during the little warriors 48 hour infusions, but very effective during a 30 minute infusion. It is now a part of the oncology protocol at this stage in treatment. Trajen is tired, pale, and his port is still accessed (even after much negotiating (on his part) with his nurse and Dr. Hingorani to remove it) but he is happy to be home! We return to the clinic in the morning for another short infusion and then he has a week off to recover. Today a special delivery came for Trajen in the infusion area of the clinic! Apparently, during a recent PCH fundraiser, some of Trajens Army generously donated money to Phoenix Childrens Hospital in Trajens name. He received two teddy bears and a gift card because of these generous donations! Thank you so much to the Mike and Julie Leach family and to Maria Denton and her family! It was such a wonderful surprise and means so much to us and to our little warrior and it also gave him something soft to snuggle with as we finished up with chemo today. We LOVE Trajens Army!
