Day 2 Childhood Cancer Awareness--Do you ever wonder what its like to live with a princess? Some of us are fortunate enough to have a royal bloodline start in our families, if not by a long lineage of true royalty, then by self-proclamation. The latter is how our family became a part of the royal family. Once upon a time.... From the day she was born, Reed had a royal way of getting her fully due undivided attention from all who were graced with her presence. Without having to speak a word, she taught us all that we had specific jobs to do that would please her in the most delightful ways. And when one of us performed for her to the very best of our abilities we were richly compensated with loudly proclaimed squeals and giggles and gurgling and spastic hand and feet gestures and the brightest sparkle from her dancing eyes! It was our pleasure to do her bidding. As she grew into toddlerhood and began to walk, it was always--always--on her toes. The more excited she became the higher on her toes shed go. Although she could dance a jig on her toes, it was totally unacceptable to jump both feet off the floor at the same time...princesses maintained a certain level of graceful self-control and only the only time both feet came off the floor was if being lifted into the air by some of her royal subjects and a proper twirl was usually in order when one did that. (Never mind that her dainty feet were proportionally tiny as compared to that heavy, round, royally diapered behind.) Of all the subjects in her court, it was her daddy that made her giggle the loudest when he would lift her high into the air and twirl her around and catch her. As the little princess matured, she became very style conscious. Her crowns and tiaras were bows, and they had to match her outfit and shoes for the day. Her hair was always coiffed to perfection and if a subject of her royal court didnt have nice hair she called attention to it. Shed happily fix it for you. Needless to say, her mom didnt leave the house often without a proper hairstyle, at least a little makeup, and matching clothes--usually in some way matched to the princesses own attire. You arent going to the store looking like that?! she had quipped on more than one occasion. My own style (or lack thereof) often met with her disapproval--but I was allowed lee-way because I was more the court-jester and story-teller of her entourage. In September of 2009, Reed went to visit her Disney Sister Princesses. It is in some of these photos that it is apparent as to who the real princess is. There are many princess stories that grew from this much-too-quickly-passing 5 year life; but the stories are full and happy stories. As all princess stories go, the endings leave us wanting to know more about the happily ever after.
