Day 2. Gratitude Challenge 1. I am grateful for my siblings. I have 4 of them, Aileen OGrady, Donal OCarroll, Joseph OCarroll, and John OCarroll. Your siblings are your first friends, your first competitors. They teach you how to play, how to fight, how to negotiate and the concept of fairness. They share your life in a way that no one else can. They know you and you know them. If you had to, you could call them at 4:00 in the morning for help and they would come. They would complain but they would come. They keep you grounded, call you on your attitude and If youre lucky you have them most of your life. If you have a brother or sister you can call a friend youre truly blessed. I have 4 of them. 2. I am grateful for my education. I remember all my teachers; I still know their names. With my teachers encouragement, I learned how to learn. I know that I was lucky to attend the schools and have the teachers that I did. I saw a chart once that said if all the people who lived on the planet, were represented by 100 people, only one of them would have gone to college. That is humbling. I only had one grandparent who graduated from college in my whole family before my generation. One. So thank you to all the teachers and administrators who share their passion and their time with their students. Thanks to all the people who went before us and wrote down their thoughts and observations and hard lessons learned. I try to use that education I received to make the world a little better place every day knowing that I was fortunate to be in a place to receive it. 3. I am grateful for my time in the Navy. I am grateful for the people I met, the friends I made, the places I went and the amazing lessons I learned. I was blessed to be healthy and strong enough to serve my country in the best way that I could. I have attached a you tube video of Roy Benavidez. I think every person in this country should know his name. He was a congressional medal of honor winner for his heroic and even super human efforts. At the end he sums up what it meant to him to serve his country. While it is the height of hubris to attach my name to his, ON ANY LEVEL, I think everyone should know his story. And while my service was a pale echo of his, I share his love of country and gratitude for the experience. youtube/watch?v=_oUtJxE4sjs
