Day-2 Pulwama observes shutdown Hundreds Join Protest Rally At Pakherpora SHOWKAT DAR Pulwama, June 7: Life remained crippled for the second consecutive day Friday in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district following killing of two militants in an encounter with security forces in the Kellar area on Thursday. All the business establishments remained closed throughout the day and passenger traffic was off the roads. Reports said thin movement of private vehicles was witnessed in the town as well as in the interiors. Shutdown was also observed at Pakherpora, Rohmu, Chraripora, Keller and Ichgoz areas. “However, no clashes or protests were reported from anywhere in the district,” reports said. Heavy contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF troopers were deployed at Pulwama to thwart any protests after Friday prayers. A police official said that no untoward incident was reported from any part of the town. Amid violent clashes, complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama on Thursday following the killing of the two militants by forces in Ichgoz area of Kellar. Ten persons including seven policemen were injured during clashes in Pulwama town. Violent clashes also broke out near the encounter site as protesters set ablaze one generator of the army. Two Jaish militants including a divisional commander were killed in 18 hour long gunbattle with 44, 53 RR, SOG Pulwama, Shopian, CRPF, which broke out at Ichgoze Rajpora last Wednesday. One army man was critically injured and a residential house gutted in the fire that erupted during the gunfight. Massive protests were held at many places after the encounter and thousands participated in the funeral procession of the militants. Hundreds of people took out a march soon after Friday prayers at Pakherpora and raised pro- freedom slogans. The march culminated at Main Chowk peacefully. (With inputs from CNS)
