Day #2 of 5 songs in 5 Days. Chris nominated me to pick five songs in five days and then we decided they should all be 60s US Country songs to make it a little more challenging! Merle Haggard was born in a box-car and from the age of 12 spent most of the next 11 years in juvenile detention or prison. Mama Tried from 1968 namechecks the classic outlaw themes of trains, prison and crying mothers and was a regular in Greatful Dead performances from as early as 1969.
