Day 2 of the 5 Day Gratitude Challenge Like everyone, my life - TopicsExpress

Day 2 of the 5 Day Gratitude Challenge Like everyone, my life has been peppered with challenging moments that have been difficult to deal with. These events changed the course of my life and brought me to the place I am today. So Day 2 of my gratitude challenge I focus on some of these moments. 1. My mother, Katie Nadeau passed away when I was 14 years old. This was perhaps the single most difficult time for me and my family. My life changed instantly on that day - March 14, 1985 and I often wonder what it would have been like if my mother was still with us? Today, I am grateful for the brief time I did have with my mother. She instilled in me my passion for music, my love for cooking, and my quirky sense of humor (we also have the same laugh / giggle). Though you have not been with me physically since 1985 - I know that you have been with me on my lifes journey and supporting me through all of these amazing moments. 2. Many of you know that after working for St. Agnes Catholic Church in Fairway, Kansas for 8 years, I was fired for being gay and for my work as director of a gay mens chorus. This rejection from the church hit me hard, but enabled me to re-examine my own religious beliefs and re-discover my own sense of what it means to be spiritual. I am grateful to the many wonderful people of St. Agnes who supported me through that difficult time and who still remain good friends. I am also grateful for two church leaders: Fr. Don Cullen and Archbishop Jim Keleher who initially hired me and also supported me during this time in my life. 3. I have been living sober since July 10, 2009. I am grateful for my sobriety and to the large community of family and friends who have surrounded me with love and support. I made this decision after experiencing my own life start to spin out of control. My life is SO much better sober and today, I am grateful for this.
