Day 2 update for world masters rowing regatta in Ballarat. The wind picked up and Lake Wendoree was at its belligerent best (or worst) with 35km/hr+ cross winds most if the day. Today has been another golden day for PHRC here with with 3 more crews winning gold. First off was the mens D4x of Ross, Bruce, Bingy and Richard Saul winning by close to 2 lengths. Great row by these guys after coming in as bit of an unknown quantity. Well rowed guys. Next was the mens D4- of Ross, Roly, Brad and Bingy. No pressure in this one but Brad was reminded that he was the only member of the crew that was not a current world champion at the regatta. These guys ended up rowing 1 and 3/4 of the 1000m race after having the first attempt stopped as the race got to the 250m to go as there was real danger of a single sculler getting mowed down from the previous race. The guys were leading at this point and rowing well. The restart could of gone either way but there was a feeling in the boat that they were on for a good race. Most crews went extremely hard in the restart with the PHRC guys then rowing thru to lead after 250m. The middle 500 was just a matter of holding on in the strong cross wind and despite in bingys words the crew tried to lose the race by rowing crap they got it back together to finish strongly to win by under a canvas from MRC with the Russian Dynamo Moscow in 3rd. Great stuff. After a 30min regatta delay due to strong winds Ross and Bingy hit the water in the D2- the guys rowed a great race and were pushed all the way to win by close to 2 lengths after leading all the way. Awesome row by these guys. The ladies D4x of Karen, Deb, Jules and Helen hit the water as the wind was gusting at over 40km/hr and had very bumpy conditions. In true PHRC style these ladies fought hard and came in 6th. Well done ladies. Last up was Peta in the ladies D1x. Any 1x who ventured out today should get a bravery medal As the strong cross wind with the waves crashing the side made for an adventure. Bravely Peta ventured out and after being blown and buffeted the whole way she came in 5th. Great stuff Peta who showed a lot of metal in going out. Well done. Ross the machine Mursell has a lazy 5 golds so far closely followed by Bingy with 4. These guys are making the regatta their own. No PHRC crews in action tomorrow. With PHRC men winning the F8, D4x, D4-, D2x and D2- it shows we are a force in mens masters rowing. Beer oclock. #GoHouse #WMRR #winningisahabit #flatulentBallarat #goldisgood
