Day 20 & 21 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month-- a great site to go - TopicsExpress

Day 20 & 21 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month-- a great site to go to is thetruth365.org. Many times her plans for pranking Uncle Pedro on Sunday would begin on a Friday evening. Her speech was slowed and labored due to the progression of the tumor. IIIIII knnnnowww wwhhaaaat weee caaaan doooo! I was almost always certain the rest of her statement would have to do with dressing up Uncle Pedro like a girl, but it was important to let her tell her plan in all its excitement and details. Her deep brown eyes would be stretched wide open and her little fists would be clenched in anticipation of carrying the plan out without getting caught! Shed smack her lips between each step and let out a deep, slow, belly-rollin giggle before starting to plan the next step. First we had to decide on just the right kind of bag to gather our tools in. It might be a hand-me-down purse, a canvas bag I had left from a conference, or even a plastic bag from the grocery store. It was never randomly selected, there had to be strategic planning so that Uncle Pedro would never guess what we were about to do to him. Sometimes shed see a purse that wasnt being used and she would immediately as to use it so that she could gather her things. Sometimes I would gather some things from home to use, but she really liked getting Nanas help to find the perfect accessories to bring out the girl in Uncle Pedro. Over the next day or so, shed gather scarves, necklaces, boas, foundation, lipstick (had to be the right color), eye-liner and eye shadow and even nail polish. I gave Pedro the warning, Reeds planning to prank you and dress you like a girl, so you have to take a nap after lunch so that you will wake up and realize that you are dolled up. I think he got as excited about it as we did! Reed could hardly wait to finish eating lunch. Shed giggle and suggest a nap cause Uncle Pedro looked like he should rest. Hed antagonize her by saying he didnt need no nap, naps were for little girls. Finally hed head off to the living room to settle on the couch. Reed and I would make several trips up and down the hallway to see if he was asleep. After a couple of trips, hed be snoring. Thats when the plot would go down. Shed whisper, Uncle Pedro, you just keep resting, Im just gonna give you a massage to help you rest better. Out would come the Bath and Body lotion, she gently rubbed his hands and then smoothed some over his face, careful not to wake him up. Shed help put foundation and powder across is cheeks, chin, and forehead. She carefully (or not) applied the lipstick and a thick layer of gloss, while I did the eyeliner and mascara. If he stirred in his slumber, shed whisper Sshhhh, just relax Uncle Pedro, this will make you rest so much better. In reality, all the giggles would have awakened a hibernating bear. Reed would put the final touches of jewelry and scarves across his head and around his neck. Shed sometimes slip a bracelet on his arm or a large bubble gum machine ring on his finger. Wed then leave the scene. Many times, hed continue the drama by not waking up fast enough. Wed have to make several loud trips up and down the hall and into the living room before the sleeping beauty would awaken. Hed stretch and talk about how relaxed he felt. Hed make a big deal of going into the bathroom, looking into the mirror, and scream like a giurl in complete and total shock! Reed would be so pleased with herself! We usually would end up on the porch, telling princess story about Princess Pedro-lina. I bet there are still a couple of those bags around. Still amply supplied with lotion and lipstick and probably a scarf and I bet I know a where there is a Princess-wannabe willing to take a nap. If only our little girl was here to dress him up!
