Day 20 (Leukodsytrophy Awareness Month) Fact #20 -- Leukodystrophy robs you of the ability to eat. Most kids have gastronomy tubes. In Olivias case, the furthest she got in her development in this area is to the baby food stage. She was able to eat pureed foods but started losing her fine motor skills shortly after she was diagnosed. In this video, she was learning how to pick up puffs. She never got a chance to learn how to feed herself. When the seizures started happening, she completely lost all ability to eat and in May 2010, she had a gastronomy tube put in. How can you help spread awareness? Share with a class that you know of a disease that robs children of the ability to do many things. Share with them about this rare neurological disorder.
